Tuesday I'll be leaving on a long, rescue trip, first to New England, then to southern California. It will be mostly business, but I'm going to try to see some friends along the way and do a few tourist stops. For one, instead of driving across the US to the east coast, I'm going to drive across Canada, end to end. Unless I run into a time crunch, I'll hit nine provinces before heading south. Next, I'll see six states I've never visited before: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. I'll pick up a dog in the Boston area, a border collie mix that has badly bitten his pet-sitter's face, and a miniature pinscher in upstate New York that bit off a woman's lip, requiring it to be reattached. From there, I'll drive to DC to visit a friend I haven't seen since the '90s, and I'll hit North and South Carolina and West Virginia, the last three states I haven't visited yet, before heading west. Depending on how much time I have, I may try to visit some sanctuaries in Tennessee, Texas, and Utah on the way, before arriving in California (hopefully) in time for my mom's birthday. In California I'll pick up a Westie and a Jack Russell, both with multiple bite incidents in their histories, and head north to check out some properties around the bay area that I can't afford. If the timing works out, I'll go to my cousin's senior drum recital in Sacramento before returning to Washington.
This is the first trip I will have ever taken with a laptop, which means I'll be able to post photos and updates from the road. Plans seem to change quickly in my life, but as long as no insurmountable obstacle arises, I'll be sleeping in the back of my truck somewhere in British Columbia Tuesday night, and taking pictures at Banff National Park on Wednesday. Spencer, Lupe, and Rocket will be along for the ride.
